Martha was born in 1868 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.1 Martha's father was Joseph Cobb and her mother was Susan Pilant. Her maternal grandparents were John Pilant and Mahala. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Andrew, William G., James, John, Eliza D., Mary, Serena and Nancy. She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.-
