Matthew Martin Clay

Matthew Martin was born in 1821 in ,Bourbon, Kentucky.¹ Matthew Martin's father was Henry Clay and his mother was Margaret Helm. His paternal grandparents were Henry Clay and Rachel Povall. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Henry, John, Joseph Helm, Samuel H., Francis Povall, Lettitia, Sarah Or Sallie, Elizabeth Payne, Mary Ann and Henrietta. He was the second youngest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 42 in 1863 in ,Bourbon, Kentucky.¹
