Martha A. was born in 1862 in ,Hawkins, TN.¹   Martha A.'s father was John A. Cheatham and her mother was Elizabeth. She had a brother and two sisters, named William H., Minnie and Florence.  She was the oldest of the four children. She had five half-brothers and four half-sisters, named John, James C., Andrew, William, Richard, Elizabeth, Sarah F., Mary E. and Matilda A..
