Her paternal grandparents were William Champion and Mary Fort; her maternal grandparents were George Martin and Lavenia Geiger. She had nine brothers and three sisters, named William, George Martin, John Fort, Andrew Fort, Elias Fort, Marion Eley, Micajah James, David Fort, Daniel Huff, Lavenia, Rebecca and Sarah Frances. She was the second oldest of the thirteen children.-
