Thomas was born in 1796. Thomas' father was Richard Cavett and his mother was Rutha Millsap. His paternal grandparents were Moses JR Cavett and Agnes Nancy Meetch; his maternal grandfather was UNKNOWN Millsap. He had three brothers and two sisters, and also four siblings of unknown gender, named Moses, Alexander, William White, Nancy "Sally", Polly, Jane, Elizabeth , Ann and Rutha. He was the third oldest of the ten children.-
