Polly was born in 1804 in . Polly's father was Richard Cavett and her mother was Rutha Millsap. Her paternal grandparents were Moses JR Cavett and Agnes Nancy Meetch; her maternal grandfather was UNKNOWN Millsap. She had four brothers and a sister, and also four siblings of unknown gender, named Moses, Thomas, Alexander, William White, Nancy "Sally", Jane, Elizabeth , Ann and Rutha. She was the fifth youngest of the ten children.-
