Eli Benton was born on June 29th, 1771 in , , NC. Eli Benton's father was John Whitaker and his mother was Christian Benton. His paternal grandparents were Richard Whitaker and Elizabeth Cary; his maternal grandfather was Absalom Benton. He had six brothers and three sisters, named James, Richard, John, Cary, Absalom Benton, Wilson Cary, Elizabeth, Martha and Margaret Green. He was the oldest of the ten children. He died at the age of 70 on September 18th, 1841 in , Leon, Florida.-
