She had three brothers and nine sisters, named Nathan Bachman, Philip Smith, William Douglas, Catherine Ann, Eliza Jane, Julia Ann, Sarah Amanda, Matilda Antoinette, Frances Louisa, Adelaide, Cornelia Josephine and Martha Ellen. She was the fifth youngest of the thirteen children.-
