Stephen F. was born on April 25th, 1836 in , , Kentucky. Stephen F.'s father was John Allen Gano and his mother was Mary Catherine Conn. His paternal grandparents were Richard M. Gano and Elizabeth Ewing; his maternal grandfather was William Conn. He had five brothers and three sisters, named William Conn, Richard M., Robert Ewing, Franklin M., John Allen, Fannie C., Eliza G. and Mary Eliza. He was the fifth oldest of the nine children. He died about 1836.-
