Diana was born in 1853 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Diana's father was Pharoah A. Cobb and her mother was Catherine Chestnut. Her paternal grandfather was Jesse Cobb; her maternal grandparents were Samuel Chestnut and Susan Lee. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Jesse, Pharoah, Mary, Cobb and Sarah Lucy. She was the third oldest of the six children.-
