John K. was born on January 2nd, 1831 in White County, Tennessee. John K.'s father was Stephen K. Charles and his mother was Mary Knowles. His paternal grandparents were James J. Charles and Tabitha Senter. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Arlington J., James, Tabitha, Sarah, Elizabeth, Cynthia Or Sintha M. and Mary A.. He was the third youngest of the eight children. He died at the age of 48 on October 22nd, 1879 in , Faulkner, Arkansas.-
