Mary was born in 1878 in Of, Bourbon, Kentucky. Mary's father was Buckner and her mother was Mary Eliza Gano. Her maternal grandparents were John Allen Gano and Mary Catherine Conn. She had a brother and two sisters, named Gano, Catherine and Fannie. She was the youngest of the four children.-
