Catherine was born in 1865 in Of, Bourbon, Kentucky. Catherine's father was Buckner and her mother was Mary Eliza Gano. Her maternal grandparents were John Allen Gano and Mary Catherine Conn. She had a brother and two sisters, named Gano, Fannie and Mary. She was the oldest of the four children.-
