Roger was born about 1472 in Malzar, Northamptonshire, England. Roger's father was Nicholas Billing and his mother was Agnes Gilbert. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Billing and Catherine Giffard; his maternal grandfather was Stephen Gilbert. He had three brothers and two sisters, named William, Henry, John, Katherine and Agnes. He was the third oldest of the six children.-
