Henry was born on October 26th, 1792 in , Bourbon, Kentucky. Henry's father was Littleberry Bedford and his mother was Mattie Clay. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Bedford and Mary Ligon Coleman; his maternal grandparents were Henry Clay and Rachel Povall. He had ten brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, William, Littleberry, John, Augustine Volney, Franklin P., Benjamin Coleman, Archibald M., George M., Edwin G., Elizabeth and Martha Or Patsy P.. He was the second oldest of the thirteen children.-
