Her paternal grandparents were John Beal and Mary Elizabeth Bertram; her maternal grandfather was Booth. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Newton Thompson, Joseph Johnson, James Hamilton, Mary Elizabeth and Capitola Leonora. She was the third youngest of the six children.-
