Lucinda was born in 1856 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Lucinda's father was Valentine D. Arnott and her mother was Katherine Smith. Her paternal grandparents were Jacob Arnott and Emeline Grigsby. She had two brothers and five sisters, named Andrew, Monk, Nancy, Dulcena, Julia A., Minerva and Martha. She was the fourth oldest of the eight children.-
