Ida was born in 1870 in Saint John, Harrison Co., IA . Ida's father was Thomas Jefferson PHIPPS and her mother was Charlotte COPELAND. Her paternal grandparents were James PHIPPS and UNKNOWN UNKNOWN; her maternal grandparents were Jefferson COPELAND and Louisa JOHNSON . She had four brothers and two sisters, named William S., Joseph Milton , Albert, Leroy, Martha and Della. She was the youngest of the seven children.General Notes
