Thomas W. PATTON 
Thomas W. was born in 1726 in Carlisle, Chester Co., PA . Thomas W.'s father was Mathew Leander (Old Matt) PATTON and his mother was Elizabeth Jane ALEXANDER. His paternal grandparents were John PATTON and Matilda Ann WIDEMAN; his maternal grandparents were Francis ALEXANDER and Martha BLAIR. He had two brothers and a sister, named James , John M. and Mary Mararet. He was the second oldest of the four children. He died at the age of 82 on March 22nd, 1808 in Pisgah Forest, Buncombe Co., NC.General Notes

Thomas was a soldier of the Revolution War, serving in Burke County, Salisbury District, North Carolina.
His Revaluation Voucher Certificate number is 1455 and listed on page 213.
He has been accepted as a Revolutionary ancester for DAR membership, DAR #538818.

Thomas Patton, second son of Matthew and Elizabeth Alexander Patton was born in 1726.
Thomas Patton married Margaret Irwin at Carlisle, Pennsylvania in 1752. The couple settled in the countryside but soon moved to the town of Carlisle for more security from the Indians who were roaming the neighborhood. The couple did not stay in Carlisle long. By 1764 Thomas and Margaret had relocated to North Carolina.
Thomas and Margaret were both active members of the Presbyterian Church.
Thomas served as elder of the church in Bedford County, Tennessee.
Thomas was a soldier of the Revolution War, serving in Burk,
County,Salisbury District, North Carolina. His Revaluation Voucher Certificate number is 1455 and listed on page 213.
Margaret Irwin was the tenth and last child born to James and Jane Irwin.Margaret was born in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Her father, James Irwin, was born in Ireland about 1700. He married Jane or Jean in Ireland and at least three of their children were born there before they sailed for the states in 1727-29. The Irwin family came to the West Conococheague settlement in Peter's Township, Cumberland County Pennsylvania. Their land was four miles south of Merecerburg.
James Irwin and his sons had numerous land warrants in this area. At the time of his death, James Irwin owned six different tracts of land near the Conadoguint Creek. His home became know as"Irwinton Mills". A fine stone house, a gristmill and sawmill were built by James Irwin and added to after his death by son, Archibald. The house, unusual for its day, continues to merit admiration.
The Irwin family, like the Patton families, was devout Presbyterian and
belonged to the West Conococheague congregation.
James Irwin was a distiller, which did not seem to interfere with his or his family's devotion to the Presbyterianism. He brought up a large family of sons and daughters to be influential citizens, loyal to both
country and church.
James Irwin and his wife were great-great grandparents to Benjamin
