John M. was born in 1728 in Peters Twp, Cumberland, PA. John M. 's father was Mathew Leander (Old Matt) PATTON and his mother was Elizabeth Jane ALEXANDER. His paternal grandparents were John PATTON and Matilda Ann WIDEMAN; his maternal grandparents were Francis ALEXANDER and Martha BLAIR. He had two brothers and a sister, named James , Thomas W. and Mary Mararet. He was the second youngest of the four children. He died at the age of 58 in June 1786 in Spartanburg Co., PA .General Notes

Will of John Patton of Spartanburg County..........to my dear and loving wife for the term of her life the house and plantation I now live on and my young son John Patton during his lifetime; also to my beloved son Matthew Patton, 150 acres of land joining the said plantation I live upon, which land lays upon Tyger River; also one mear and colt to my three daughters Elizabeth Patton, Rebecka Patton and Mary Patton, 300 acres of land lying upon Bens Creek and the waters of Tyger River, to be divided by lot when Mary Patton comes of age; my part of my father's estate which was willed to me in Pennsylvania be equaley divided between my dear wife and living children........17 Sept 1786.
