Joseph was born on September 26th, 1670 in Perquimans Co., NC . Joseph's father was Christopher NICHOLSON and his mother was Hannah REDKNAP. His paternal grandparents were Edmund NICHOLSON and Elizabeth SIMSON. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Samuel, John , Nathaniel , Benjamin , Deliverance, Hannah and Jane (Jean /Jeane). He was the fourth oldest of the eight children. He had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Christopher , Thomas , Elizabeth, Sarah Philura, Ann and Ann .-
