William Dixon was born in 1835 in Monroe Co., AL . William Dixon 's father was William Joseph Birch NETTLES and his mother was Mary Ann ANDRESS . His paternal grandparents were William Joseph Jr. NETTLES and Mary "Lucy" THORNLEY ; his maternal grandparents were Stephen ANDRESS and Nancy Ann SINGLETON. He had four sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender named Mary , Elcy Caroline, Eleanor , Nancy Jane and Elizabeth . He was the second youngest of the six children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Thomas Alexander and Martha Ophelia.-
