Eleanor was born on December 25th, 1834 in Monroe Co., AL . Eleanor 's father was William Joseph Birch NETTLES and her mother was Mary Ann ANDRESS . Her paternal grandparents were William Joseph Jr. NETTLES and Mary "Lucy" THORNLEY ; her maternal grandparents were Stephen ANDRESS and Nancy Ann SINGLETON. She had a brother and three sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named William Dixon , Mary , Elcy Caroline, Nancy Jane and Elizabeth . She was the third youngest of the six children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Thomas Alexander and Martha Ophelia.-
