Edward was born in 1739 in Jordan Co., VA. Edward 's father was Richard (Jr) BLAND and his mother was Ann Abigale POYTHRESS. His paternal grandparents were Richard (Col.) BLAND and Elizabeth RANDOLPH. He had five brothers and six sisters, named Richard III, Peter R. , John (Col.) , William (Rev.) , Theodorick , Elizabeth, Sarah , Ann Poythress, Mary , Lucy Atkinson and Susan. He was the fifth youngest of the twelve children.-
