Maria Elizabeth was born on October 15th, 1779. Maria Elizabeth's father was Johannes Walker Jr. and her mother was Eva Christine Stocker. Her maternal grandparents were Michael Stocker and Anna Margaretha Stephan. She had four brothers and seven sisters, named Johan Philip, John, Johan Franz, Johan Jacob, Juliana Maria, Maria Magdalena, Anna Maria, Margaret, Susanna, Eva Catherine and Rosina. She was the fifth oldest of the twelve children.-
