Alexander (Big Alec) was born on March 4th, 1823 in Marion Co, (W)VA. Alexander (Big Alec)'s father was Adam F. Toothman and his mother was Susanna Kerns. His paternal grandparents were Johann Deterick Duchman and Sarah Kyser. He had four brothers and seven sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named Andrew, Elijah, Adam D., Jesse James, Rachel Bell , Julia Ann, Nancy, Mary B, Barbara, Elizabeth A, Hannah Jane and Tenah. He was the third oldest of the thirteen children. He died at the age of 79 on June 4th, 1902 in Plum Run, Marion Co, WV.General Notes
In the 1870 census, Alexander is listed as Big Alexander. Sarah passed away before he married Nancy Parrish. Buried in old Adam Toothman Cemetery, Plum Run, WV
