Lewis B. was born on July 2nd, 1913. Lewis B.'s father was Emery Elias Criss and his mother was Belva Belle Toothman. His paternal grandparents were John William Criss and Sarah Jane Hawkins; his maternal grandparents were Edmund Nathaniel Toothman and Priscilla Jane Caton. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Emery John, Homer Edward, Rhoda Inez, Daisy Pearl, Minnie J., Ruby May, Stella Ruth and Helen Geraldine.
