John Edwin was born about 1793 in Dinwiddie County, Virginia.1 John Edwin's father was Joshua Spain and his mother was Elizabeth Eppes. His paternal grandparents were John Spain and ? ?. He had two brothers and a sister, named Stephen, Albert and Nancy Eppes. He was the second oldest of the four children. He died on April 8th, 1873 in Peoria, Mahaska County, Iowa.1 General Notes
