Joshua was born about 1759 in Dinwiddie County, Virginia.1 Joshua's father was John Spain and his mother was ? ?. His paternal grandparents were William Batte Spain and Mary Peterson. He had eight brothers and four sisters, named Hezekiah, James, John Peterson, Matthew, Samuel, Theodoric, Thomas, William, Agnes, Martha, Mary and Polly Frances. He died on December 9th, 1840 in Wayne Township, Champaigne County, Ohio.1 General Notes
