Mary Jane was born on June 27th, 1831.1 Mary Jane's father was James Pevehouse and her mother was Mary (Polly) Hodge. Her paternal grandparents were Jacob Pevehouse and Rachel Kellums; her maternal grandparents were Alexander Hodge and Ruth Hodge. She had five brothers and a sister, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named Alexander, John, Squire, Travis, William, Clarinda and Aylsey.General Notes

She married Nelson Dunlavy on 12 Oct 1853. She is buried with her husband at Hodge's Bend near Sugarland, Texas. Her wedding slippers are on display in the Daughter's of the Republic of Texas Museum, Austin, Texas.
