Robert was born in 1835 in Tennessee.1   Robert's father was Robert Grinder and his mother was Sarah ?.  His paternal grandparents were Joshua Grinder and Francis ?. He had three brothers and a sister, named John, William, James and Sarah.  He was the youngest of the five children.
