Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Dickins and Elizabeth ?; her maternal grandparents were Uriah Stevens and Manessa ?. She had nine brothers named Lunsford, Merritt, Thomas, Gideon, Lewis, Uriah, Richard, Nehemiah and Joseph. She was the youngest of the ten children.
