His paternal grandparents were Robert II Capet the Pious King of France and Constance de Arles; his maternal grandparents were Yaroslav I Vladimirovich the Prince of Kiev and Ingigerd (Anna) of Sweden Olafsdottir. He had a brother named Philippe I Capet the Fair. He was the younger of the two children. He died on October 18th, 1102 in Tarsus, Cilicie, Turkey.
