Samuel was born in 1768 in Augusta, Virginia.1   Samuel's father was Robert Buchanan and his mother was Mary ?.  His paternal grandparents were Samuel Buchanan and Martha McNutt. He had four sisters named Martha, Esther, Mary and Margaret.  He was the second youngest of the five children.  He died at the age of 35 on September 12th, 1803 in Davidson County, Tennessee.1
