Martha was born on September 29th, 1764 in Augusta, Virginia.1   Martha's father was Robert Buchanan and her mother was Mary ?.  Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Buchanan and Martha McNutt. She had a brother and three sisters, named Samuel, Esther, Mary and Margaret.  She was the oldest of the five children.  She died at the age of 70 on September 16th, 1835 in Davidson County, Tennessee.1
