Robert was born in 1733 in Augusta, Virginia.1   Robert's father was Samuel Buchanan and his mother was Martha McNutt.  His paternal grandparents were William Buchanan and ? ?. He had five brothers named Andrew, William, Moses, Samuel and John.  He died at the age of 85 in 1818 in Williamson County, Tennessee.1
