George A. Hartman was born October 4, 1889 at Hayes, Illinois, near
Tuscola. He attended St. Mary's school near Pesotum and there he made
his first communion and was confirmed. When he was sixteen years old,
his family moved to Muenster, Texas, on a farm. George lived in
Muenster until he was 21 years old at which time he made a trip back
to Illinois where he hired out to work on a farm. For several years
he moved from place to place, hiring out where ever he could find work
at farms. A few years later he moved to Antwerp, Ohio, where he
worked for several years before he took a job in Fort Wayne Indiana.
On January 15, 1924 he married Mary Ditlinger of Payne, Ohio. They
were married by Father M. A. McFadden in Payne. Their wedding
attendants were Albert Hartman and Anna Ditlinger. After the wedding
breakfast, they went to Fort Wayne, Indiana where they made their
home. George was 34 years at the time of their marriage and Mary was
27. They had six children and were married 57 years when George passed
away at the age of 92 on November 17, 1981. He is buried in the
Catholic Cemetery in Fort Wayne.
