[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 5, Ed. 1, Tree #1913, Date of Import: May 19, 1999]
Nathan Gons Phillips, born January 18, 1810, attended Amhurst College,
entered ministry of the Presbyterian Church, moved to Selma, Dallas
County, Alabama, in or about 1838, married Prudence Morrison in 1839,
died as Chaplain of the 43rd Alabama Infantry, C.S.A., in Tennessee, in
1862. He and his wife are buried at Valley Creek Graveyard, near Selma.
Their children were: Nathan Wilson, my father, Margaret, who died in
childhood, Robert, who died in C.S.A. in Tennessee in 1862. Leroy, who
died in infancy, John Hope, who died at Fayetteville, Alabama, recently.
My father died at Weatherford, Texas January 1, 1918.
*Prepared by CPT Nathan Howard Phillips, Camp Wadsworth, South Caroline,
March 23, 1918.
The foregoind data was secured chiefly from my father's first cousin,
Nathan Marcus Phillips, with whom I visited in Concord, on the nineth and
tenth visits. There I also met Newton Harris, also first cousin of my
father, and a number of the sons and daughters of both of these.
