1 George W.'s father was Richard Meriwether and his mother was Susan Fitzhugh Thornton. His maternal grandparents were Henry Francis Thornton and Ann Rose Fitzhugh(Bellair). He had two brothers and a sister, named Thornton, Anthony and Elizabeth. He had a half-brother named Richard.1 General Notes
