Mercy was born in Barnstable, Massachussetts. Mercy's father was John Chipman and her mother was Hope Howland. Her maternal grandparents were John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley. She had three brothers and eight sisters, named Samuel, John, John, Elizabeth, Infant girl, Hope, Lydia, Ruth, Bethiah, Hannah and Desire. She died on June 12th, 1724 in Chilmark, Massachussetts.-
