Edward Cavanaugh, son of James and Lucy Bridget Reynolds Cavanaugh, was born in Jefferson Township, Washington County, Indiana, February 1, 1868, and died at his home near Salem February 7, 1947, aged 79 years and six days. In 1894 he was married to Lula Dorsey, who preceded him in death in 1903. Surviving from this union are two daughters, Mrs. Jessie [George] Holmes of Davenport, Iowa, Mrs. Elsie [Charles Marion] Thomas of Montgomery, Ala., and a son Paige Cavanaugh of Inglewood, Calif. Another daughter, Lois Wilma, died in 1919. In 1910 Mr. Cavanaugh was married to Mrs. Ida Thompson, who with their son, Harry, of Salem, survive. Also surviving are three grandchildren, John and Bobbie Thomas and Kathleen Cavanaugh, two sisters Mrs. Anna Purlee and Mrs. Elizabeth Wright of Salem, two brothers T. M. Cavanaugh of Salem and R. E. Cavanaugh of Indianapolis, four nephews and two nieces and a wide circle of friends.
Mr. Cavanaugh was devoted to his family and was a good neighbor, who was always ready to lend encouragement and help wherever there was need.
The Rev. Henry Wood, Christian Church minister, officiated at the funeral services which were held at home Sunday afternoon. Burial was in St. Patrick Cemetery.
