Philip Sisson 
Philip was born on May 18th, 1764 in Tiverton, Newport, RI.1 Philip's father was Philip Sisson and his mother was Elizabeth Wilbur. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Sisson and Phebe Cook; his maternal grandparents were Henry Wilbore and Abigail Ricketson. He had two sisters named Abigail and Phebe. He was the second oldest of the three children. He died about 1817 in Terre Haute, Vigo, IN. He was buried in Gills Prairie, IN.1 1 General Notes

Philip Sisson, Jr., was a member of the family which released the "Negro
Jack" to fight in the American Revolution (see The Sisson Newsletter, v 8
#1). Philip was a ship builder and dealer in confiscated cargo. He had a
half-brother Alvin Shepard. Philip and his wife Susannah (or Lusannah)
Bowen were married by Judge Thomas Durfee at Freetown (later Troy),
Massachusetts. Philip inherited land from his grandfather Thomas, on the
Massachusetts-Rhode Island state line, seven miles from Fall River. They
drove a cow across the state line to avoid paying a levy on the cow. The
house had six bedrooms on the second floor, with a smokehouse above them.
Downstairs was a keeping room, two parlors, a store room, bedroom,
kitchen, pantry and hall. They had four slaves. In June 1813 the family
moved to New York (probably State), then in 1816 they removed to Terra
Haute, Indiana. Philip died circa 1817 in Indiana. See a map of Philip's
