Gladys was born on July 12th, 1912. Gladys' father was Richard Edward Houston and her mother was Margaret Parker. Her paternal grandparents were William Houston and Margaret Irvine. She had five sisters named Ruby, Phyllis, Jean Parker, Marjorie and Louise. She was the oldest of the six children.-
