Shepherd was born on October 18th, 1774 in , Cumberland, NJ.1 Shepherd's father was Abijah Gandy and his mother was Mary Sheppard. His paternal grandparents were Aaron Gandy and Elizabeth Lore; his maternal grandparents were Philip Sheppard and Mary Unknown. He had two brothers and a sister, named Henry Harris, Abijah and Deborah. He was the second youngest of the four children. He died at the age of 73 on January 25th, 1848 in Philadelphia, Phildelphia, PA. He was buried in Old Stone Church, Fairton, Cumberland, NJ.1 1 -
