His paternal grandparents were William Casto and Purthenia Purple; his maternal grandparents were John Golden and Rebecca Unknown. He had two brothers and four sisters, named William, Abel, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Mary Polly and Hannah Casto. He was the second oldest of the seven children.-
