Ruth was born in 1680 in Lyme, New London, CT.1   Ruth's father was Matthew Beckwith and her mother was Elizabeth Unknown.  Her paternal grandparents were Matthew Beckwith and Mary Elizabeth Lynne. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Matthew, John, James, Jonathan, Prudence, Elizabeth and Sarah.  She was the second youngest of the eight children. She had a half-brother named Griswold.
