Narrative

Richard was the first of this family of Heads to show up in the records in
Granville, North Carolina. He bought land in 1760, then he received a grant
of 341 acres of land, in September of 1779. This was also when George
received his grant. Both Grants were located on Grassy Creek, in the
northwest corner of Granville county. In 1778 Richard, George and Thomas took
"The Oath of Allegiance" against King George of England. There are no records
to show that either Thomas or Richard ever served in the Revolution though.
George's service is recorded by D.A.R.

The 1790 tax rolls of Camden District, Chester county, South Carolina includes
Thomas, George, James, Richard and John. It is not known for sure just when
they left North Carolina and moved to South Carolina.

Richard's will was dated 14 April 1800 in Chester county, South Carolina and
it was probated on 17 November 1800. His sons William and Henry were executors.
Richard and Sarah had nine children.
