J. Emmett Nichols

Batesburg-Leesville - Servicses for J. Emmett "Nick" Nichols, 95, of 545
Gunter St., formerly of 2217 College St., Newberry, will be held at 11
a.m. today at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, with burial in Rosemont
Cemetery. The Rev. R.M. Van Horne will officiate. Active pallbearers
will be his grandsons and grandson-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will be
members of The Men's Bible Class. Visitation will be from 10-10:45 a.m.
today at The Family Life Center, Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.
Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer World Hunger
Appeal, P.O. Box 382, Newberry, 29108. Whitaker Funeral Home of Newberry
is in charge.

Mr. Nichols died Tuesday, October 21, 1997, at his residence. Born in
Prosperity, he was a son of the late N. Arthur and Martha Sease Nichols.
He was a retired druggist with Newberry Drug Co., and was a member of the
Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Newberry and the Men's Bible Class.
He was twice married, forst to the late Mary Bedenbaugh Nichols and
second to Violet Counts Nichols.

Surviving are his wife of the home; daughter, Julia Nichols Higgins of
Spartanburg; stepson, Dr. Gurdon W. Counts of Batesburg-Leesville;
sisters, Evelyn Connelly of Prosperity, Sadie Felker and Dot Counts, both
of Newberry; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; eight
stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
