Hugh IX (-1219) de Lusignan; Count of la Marche; the Brown; perh aps count of Poitou; engaged to Isabella Tailleffeur of Angoulm e, but in 1200, when she was in the care of Hugh's uncle, Coun t of Eu, she was taken by his feudal lord King John of England w ho wed her at Bordeaux in August. Hugh formed an alliance with P hilip II, King of France against King John resulting in Joh's lo ss of his continental possessions.
Hugh may have married Agetha de Preuilly, but most references sh ow he married Matilda, daughter of Wulgrim II count of Angoulme , sister of Aymer/Aimar/Audemor, Count of Angoulme, the fathe r of Isabella Taillefeur. It has been claimed the Matilda was hi s second wife and that his issue were by a previous wife, perhap s Agetha.
