Emma was born about 1029 in Conteville.1   Emma's father was Herluin de Burgo and her mother was Herleva de Falaise.  Her paternal grandfather was Jean de Conteville Lord Tonsburgh; her maternal grandparents were Fulbert de Falaise and Duxia de Falaise. She had a brother named Robert de Burgo de Mortain. She had three half-brothers and a half-sister, named Robert, William II the Bastard, William and Adeliza de Normandy.
